Honest Counsel Boldly Given

There are often two ways to be blind to adversity. When it is so far away it can't be seen and when it's so close it obstructs the full picture. Our goal is to give clear, direct, and concise feedback with a fresh pair of eyes that can identify unseen challenges.

Plans Are Nothing, Planning Is Everything

The plan will not survive its first contact with a real week, and that is fine. The value was never the document. It is the thinking behind it, the work we put in up front so you can read the situation and adjust without losing your footing. We plan hard so you can move fast when the ground shifts.

Lead The Charge Together

We don't lead from behind a desk or manage from a distance. We are in the building, on the floor, working shoulder to shoulder with your team and sharing the same risk you do. Two operators, two perspectives, both pointed at your toughest problem until it is solved.

Hold The Line Where It Counts

Growth tests every standard you've set, and not all of them are worth defending. We help you find the few that define who you are, then hold firm on those while everything else flexes. You scale without trading away the independence and values that made the business worth building.

Half Measures Yield Half Results

We are committed through delivery of the work and beyond. This means you have measurable results, your team has adopted the new systems, you can feel confident that your investment will be sustained, and that we are always just a phone call away.

OUR STORY

Why We Started Eclipse

We started Eclipse because we kept seeing good businesses get stuck in the growth trap. The same success that builds a company starts to overrun the systems and people that made it possible. What these owners need isn't more advice. It's more capacity.

We come at this from both sides. We have the formal training in leadership and management, and we have the years of running operations where strategy actually gets tested: tight margins, real payroll, and the logistics of scaling something that's already working. That's where we saw the gap. Plenty of firms will hand you a diagnosis. Very few will stay and do the work with you.

Eclipse is our answer to that gap. We step in as your fractional partners, bringing the executive discipline and operational focus to steady the ship and set a course that holds. We started this because your business deserves to thrive, not just survive.

Meet Our Founders

DSC00830.jpg

Jon Bolin has never known business as anything but personal. He grew up working in his family's two diners in Oregon, where hard work, personal relationships, and community-rooted business weren't lessons so much as a way of life. When it came time to cut his own teeth, he funded his degree in Business Management and Leadership by learning businesses from the inside: rafting guide and ski tech in season, sign shops, donut bakeries, and garbage trucks in between. Every one of those hats taught him how a business actually runs, from the front counter to the loading dock, and it all shaped the well-rounded, roll-up-your-sleeves leader clients work with today.

Professional Background

After earning his degree, Jon joined Next Adventure, Portland's largest independently owned outdoor retailer, to launch a brand-new store in Sandy, Oregon. In just three years he grew it from $300,000 to over $1.5 million in annual revenue, hiring his future business partner, Tanner Derrick, along the way. From there he moved into central operations as HR Manager, building the company's HR department from scratch, and was soon promoted to Chief Operating Officer, overseeing four stores, an e-commerce platform, warehouse operations, and a 200-person team. Under his leadership the company cut expenses by 20% and grew profitability by 4%, and Jon ultimately helped the owners retire and successfully hand off the business.

Why Fractional Leadership?

Jon has sat in the seat most independent businesses can't afford to fill. After 15 years leading independently owned companies, including his years as a full-time COO, he knows exactly what an executive costs and exactly what one delivers. That math is the thinking behind Eclipse Solutions, the firm he co-founded with Tanner: hands-on, start-to-finish operational support that finds efficiencies, builds systems, and drives growth without the risk of a long-term payroll commitment. And for Jon, the mission runs deeper than the model. He has lived the whole arc of independent business, from a kid in his family's diners to the executive who helped the owners retire on their terms, and his goal has never changed: help great businesses grow sustainably while keeping their independence and values intact.

A Lifetime in Business

A Strategic Mind

Professional Background

Tanner's operational education came the hands-on way: more than a decade in high-stakes roles, culminating as Distribution Center Manager for Next Adventure, Portland's premier independent outdoor retailer. There he led the logistics and distribution backbone of a multi-million-dollar retail operation, managing 15 direct reports and keeping the workflows of up to 45 employees running in sync, all while wearing every hat in the building: buying, merchandising, liquidation, shipping, ecommerce, and large-scale event management. In other words, the same hats his clients wear every day. That range honed the Lean Six Sigma discipline he still uses to streamline workflows and cut waste, and it's where he worked alongside his future business partner, Jon Bolin, building the systems and team dynamics that drive performance.

Why Fractional Leadership?

After years inside operational leadership, Tanner saw a clear gap: independent businesses want to scale, but not by sacrificing the independence and values that make them who they are. Most can't justify a full-time executive hire, yet executive-level leadership is exactly what their growth demands. That's the gap fractional leadership closes, and why Tanner and Jon founded Eclipse Solutions: executive firepower at a fraction of the cost and commitment. As a Fractional Executive Leader, Tanner pairs Lean Six Sigma discipline with a certified command of AI. He holds Anthropic's complete suite of AI Fluency credentials and builds custom tools and AI architectures within the platforms a business already uses, the kind of leverage that once belonged only to big companies with big budgets. True to his roots as an educator, he doesn't install solutions and disappear; he transfers the capability to run them, so owners stay in control amid the chaos, preserve their vision, and build results that last.

Tanner Derrick believes the best solutions already live on the front lines of a business, and that a leader's job is to ask the right questions until they surface. That conviction traces back to his degree in Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education, a natural path for a kid raised exploring Mt. Hood Territory, where he still spends most weekends. Tanner leads like an educator, Socratic to the core, guiding teams to the root of a problem and equipping them to solve it themselves rather than handing down mandates from the top. He is, at heart, a strategist, fueled by a lifelong love of games, systems, and the puzzle of figuring out what makes things work. The long, winding strategic conversations that fry most people's brains are exactly where Tanner builds momentum, and that appetite for hard problems is the first thing clients feel when they sit down with him.
